Here is a picture of a corridor taken using the DigiCam ES3310 digital camera. Notice that this picture has brightly lit areas as well as areas where the lighting is dim. This image will be quite challenging to most digital cameras because they are not able to accomodate the wide range of light present in both the dark and brightly lit areas.

This picture taken by the DigiCam ES3310 is not very good. Firstly, a lot of noise were introduced unnecessarily in the output image. There is also lots of noise areas of the image where the lighting is poor. The regions marked by the red rectangles in the above images shows some examples of where noise can be seen clearly.

Also, the region marked by the green rectangle shows an area where the color appears washed out. This is because the camera is not able to capture the details in the brightly lit areas well. By comparing with the same image taken using the Olympus D580 camera, you can see there is actually a dark line across the wall in the region marked by the green rectangle but it is not present in the picture taken using ES3310.
