Here is a picture of a pathway taken using the DigiCam ES3310 digital camera. The picture was taken in broad daylight but some areas like those under the corridor as well as under the canopy of the trees are actually in the shadows. As expected, this camera was not able to capture the details of objects under shadow very well. Take for example the region marked by the red rectangle, which shows the leaves under the canopy of the tree. Because the light there is very dim, the camera was not able to deal with it and that part of the image becomes all black. Thus, there is loss of details.

Another example is in the region under the corridor of the building on the right of the picture. Although the camera was able to capture some details under the dark corridor, what was unexpected was that there was lots of noise there. it is possible that the image processing algorithms of the camera tried to bring out the details in the dim light but unintentionally, added some noise. Not only that, there were also some noise along the dark window panes of the building at the background of the picture. All these are shown in the two pictures below and highlighted by the green rectangles in the image above.
