Comments:
Dim Regions:
- The regions in the shadows for this picture are
too dim with too little details. These include the areas under the corridor as
well as under the canopy of the trees. In the real scene, the eyes can see more
details in these places and it would be great if the camera could also
reproduce these details as well.

Sharpness Criteria:
- The zoom-in below shows comparison of the object
at the end of the pathway between pictures taken by the H10 and
the Olympus D580.

Zoom-in into H10 Picture

Zoom-in into D580 Picture
The number of pixels for the transition from the gray region to the black
region in the H10 zoom-in is 2-3 pixels while it is 2 pixels in
the D580 zoom-in.
Ratio of edge transition in 1 direction
= edge transition in H10 / edge transition in D580 = 3
/ 2 = 1.5
Ratio of effective resolution
= effective resolution for H10 / effective resolution for D580 =
2 MPixel / 4 MPixel = 0.5
Sharpness Discount Factor
for H10 compared with D580
= ratio of effective resolution / ratio of edge transition in x and y
directions = 0.5 / ( 1.5 x 1.5 ) = 0.222
Sharp Pixel Count
= 4 MPixel * 0.222 = 888 000
Pixels
Therefore, the count of pixels that
contributes to the sharpness of the image by H10 (2 MPixel image sensor)
is 888 000.
