Comparison of Sharpness:
- The following zoom-ins into the pictures of H10, D580, and H18 are used to compare their sharpness with respect to each other. The location of the region of the zoom-in is highlighted by the yellow box below.

Comparing the zoom-ins above, the H18 picture is blurrer than the H10 and the D580. The D580 is the sharpest among the 3 cameras.

Sharpness Comparison between H10 and D580:

Considering the vertical edge between the black and white reigon on the right of the zoom-in, the number of pixels required for the transition from 1 region to the other are shown in the follwing table.

Camera
Model
Edge transition between
White and Black Color Regions
H10 3 Pixels
D580 2 Pixels
H18 4 Pixels

Ratio of edge transition in 1 direction
= edge transition in H10 / edge transition in D580 = 3 / 2 = 1.5

Ratio of effective resolution
= effective resolution for H10 / effective resolution for D580 =  2 MPixel / 4 MPixel = 0.5

Sharpness Discount Factor for H10 compared with D580
= ratio of effective resolution / ratio of edge transition in x and y directions = 0.5 / ( 1.5 x 1.5 ) = 0.222

Sharp Pixel Count
= 4 MPixel * 0.222 =   888 000 Pixels

Therefore, the count of pixels that contributes to the sharpness of the image by H10 (2 MPixel image sensor) is 888 000.

Loss of Details at Far End of Pathway:
- The conparisons between pictures taken by H10 and H18 of the details at the far end of the pathway are shown below.

The zoom-in by H18 has more details than that by H10. The H10 zoom-in does not have the frames of the doors.

Trees are too Dark:
- The rows of bushes on the right side of the picture looks too dark compared to the actual scene. This is shown in the zoom-in below.

Camera Settings used:
Both pictures taken by H10 and H18 uses the same camera settings:
Aperture Size = F / 3.5, Shutter Speed = 1 / 1254 sec, ISO = 100

Both cameras were set to auto mode when taking the picture of this scene.

Trees Look Blurred:
- The trees on the right of the picture looks blurred and more details can be brought out there. The zoom-in below shows how the trees look like.
