Here is a picture of a some far away trees taken using the
Olympus D580 digital camera. You can find a similar picture taken using the
Canon Powershot A40 digital camera over
here.
If you compare the 2 pictures taken by both cameras, you will
find that the one by the D580 is sharper and has more contrast than that by the
A40. I have highlighted some specific areas where you can see the differences
clearly with the red, blue, and orange rectangles in the above picture. I have
also cut them out and compared them side by side in the sequences of pictures
below. In the pictures below, you will find that the ones by Olympus D580 is
sharper and has more details than the ones by Canon A40.

If you look at the parts highlighted by the red circles in
the region of the red rectangles, you will find that that part is especially
blur for the A40 whereas the D580 picture shows more contrast and details.
Actually, that part of the leaves is very dense. This shows that the pictures
taken by D580 is truly of good quality.
However, if you look at the region marked by the orange
rectangle, you will find that the tree is very noisy even though it is sharp
for the Olympus D580 picture. This is shows that although the D580 tries to
introduce more details and contrast to its pictures, sometimes it may
unintentionally add more noise to the picture.
