Here is a picture of a running track taken in the afternoon
using the Olympus D580 digital camera. The picture looks great and the colors
of the sky and the running track looks fresh and vibrant. Howvever, one problem
with the Olympus D580 when taking this picture was that the details of the
metal gratings in the in the foreground were not captured well. This is shown
by region of the green rectangle above. The metal stripes of the grating cannot
be distinguished individually and as a result, the grating looks like a flat
piece of metal sheet instead. The two pictures below compares it with a closer
shot of the metal grating. This closer view shows that the metal grating does
have individual metal stripes and is not a flat metal sheet, as depicted in the
orginal image.

Take a look of the region marked by the blue rectangle in the
image above. You will find that you are unable to discern the indivdual lines
of the running track anymore when they start coming very close together. In
fact, the lines will appear as a patch of blur when they come very close
together, as shown by the picture below. Most digital cameras are not able
capture areas where there are very fine lines close together properly, although
our eyes are able to do it better.

If you look at the row of palm trees at the centre of the
picture, you will find that most parts of the tree leaves that are under shadow
appear totally black. But this is not so to our eyes and we are still able to
make out some details of the leaves that are in the shadows. Thus, this is
another situation where there is a loss of details in areas under dim light
when taking pictures using this camera. I have marked out the parts of the
trees where there is loss of details with red circles in the picture above. You
can also see a close up of the region of the red circles in the image below.
